If you want some tea, dear, I can have it for you in about ten minutes. There's a kitchenette half a mile south from here.
Woah what's with the shading?! Well, the short story is I decided I needed to sacrifice ludicrous detail for clarity.
The long story? I've always noticed since I started shading with my soft brush that colors were lost, form was confused, and generally a bit more of a mess took its place.
Not that I mean it's bad. For singular pictures, this was great. But with the comics I draw, my detailed shading was sure to lose the important details and points of focus that the viewers should pay attention to.
I'm always striving to improve my drawings, and as it stands right now, I'm seriously liking the soft, cell-shaded look. Perhaps when I find a way to increase shading detail without compromising on visual clarity, I can go back to further realism. However, as it stands realistic shading makes a mess of my comics.
